SUMMARY:CERIS FCT 2022
DESCRIPTION:On April 4th\, the EC organized in Brussels the workshop of CERIS FCT\, regarding the protection of public spaces. The workshop brought together law enforcement practitioners\, policy makers\, researchers (from both academic and industrial community) and public spaces (and soft targets) representatives\, to discuss the impacts of Horizon 2020\, Horizon Europe and ISF Police projects from this portfolio. \nPublic Spaces and Soft Targets\, such as public buildings\, sports venues\, shopping malls\, schools\, and transportation systems\, are locations that are easily accessible to large numbers of people and very hard to protect\, making them vulnerable to attack. \nThe sectors covered by the (Critical Entities Resilience) CER Directive\, such as Transportation and Public Administration\, do include assets that can be characterized as a public space or soft target. The Space sector has also been identified under the same Directive\, as one that do include critical entities. All these sectors and many more identified\, need to be carefully and efficiently protected\, in order to provide vital services to the community in a safe and resilient way. \nIlias Gkotsis\, from Satways R&D Dept.\, had the chance to share knowledge\, experiences and research findings in order to identify current achievements\, best practices and possible synergies with the European projects addressing similar needs in the security field as 7SHIELD. \nThe workshop consisted of three main parts: application of Smart Cities technologies\, cases of public events\, and balance between security and privacy. The valuable knowledge and lessons learned\, will support further development of the tools (more specifically the CIRP-RAT and the ENGAGE CSIM) developed by Satways within the project

SUMMARY:EU-HYBNET 2nd Annual Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The EU-HYBNET Pan European Network to Counter Hybrid Threats Annual Workshop aims at highlighting the results and findings of the EU-HYBNET project gained during the second project year. \nAs part of the event\, EU-HYBNET is inviting organizations that work with security-related topics to present research and/or innovations which could contribute to countering hybrid threats. EU-HYBNET is interested to hearing about a wide array of issues such as: \n\nTechnological innovations.\nIdeas in organizational change.\nPublic policy measures and experiences.\nSolutions to increase security in and resilience of critical infrastructures\, cyber domain\, local and national government.\nInformation and strategic communication systems.

SUMMARY:2nd ECSCI workshop on Critical Infrastructure Protection
DESCRIPTION:Modern Critical Infrastructures (CI) are becoming increasingly complex\, turning into distributed\, large-scale cyber-physical systems or becoming more and more interconnected and interdependent to other CIs. Cyber-physical attacks are increasing in number\, scope\, and sophistication\, making it difficult to be prepared for them and predict their total impact. Thus\, addressing cyber security and physical security separately is no longer effective\, but more integrated approaches that consider both physical and cyber-security risks\, along with their interrelationships\, interactions\, and cascading effects\, are needed to face the challenge of combined cyber-physical or even hybrid attacks. \nThis workshop will present the different approaches on integrated cyber and physical security in different industrial sectors\, such as energy\, transport\, drinking and waste water\, health\, digital infrastructure\, banking and financial market\, space and public administration . The peculiarities of critical infrastructure protection in each one of these sectors will be discussed and addressed by the different projects of the ECSCI cluster that will present their outcomes\, discussing the technical\, ethical and societal aspects and the underlying technologies. \nSpecifically\, novel techniques will be presented for integrated security modelling\, IoT security\, artificial intelligence for securing critical infrastructures\, distributed ledger technologies for security information sharing and increased automation for detection\, prevention and mitigation measures. \nThe workshop will include keynote speeches\, 23 projects presentations\, roundtable and panel discussions\, and thematic presentations. It is intended for scientists and experts in the field of critical infrastructure protection\, CISOs\, CIOs\, CERTs\, CSIRTs\, CSOs\, cyber and physical security experts representing different sector and policy makers for critical infrastructure protection. \nThe workshop will foresee several presentations addressing the following issues: \n\nMitigation of combined physical and cyber threats\nNew regulatory challenges\nEthical and legal aspects of security\nCombating Hybrid Threats to Critical Infrastructures\nCyber and Physical Detection\nCyber-Physical Security integration and modelling\nIncreased automation for detection\, prevention and mitigation measures\nDynamic Safety and Security Risk Assessment\nInformation and knowledge sharing environment and respective  rules\nStandards\, certifications and Regulations on the Protection of Critical Infrastructures\nCommon Platform for Cascading Effects on the Different Critical Infrastructures\nCombined Safety and Security for European Critical Infrastructures\nCyber Security Awareness
