SUMMARY:CPS4CIP 2022 and ESORICS 2022
DESCRIPTION:From 26 to 30 September\, our partner Satways is attending the 3rd International Workshop on Cyber-Physical Security for Critical Infrastructures Protection (CPS4CIP 2022). Co-located with the 27th European Symposium on Research in Computer Security (ESORICS 2022) – https://esorics2022.compute.dtu.dk/ \nCPS4CIP 2022 is the third workshop dedicated to cyber-physical security for protecting critical infrastructures which support finance\, energy\, health\, air transport\, communication\, gas\, and water. \nThe conference has the objective to bring together security researchers and practitioners from the various verticals of critical infrastructures (such as financial\, energy\, health\, air transport\, communication\, gas and water domains)\, to rethink cyber-physical security in the light of latest technology developments\, e.g.\, cloud computing\, blockchain\, big data\, Artificial Intelligence (AI)\, Internet of Things (IoT). \nThe aim of ESORICS is to further the progress of research in computer security by establishing a European forum for bringing together researchers in this area\, by promoting the exchange of ideas with system developers and by encouraging links with researchers in related areas. \nOur partners will present their work achieved within the 7SHIELD project.

SUMMARY:CERIS Annual Event 2022:  Fighting Crime and Terrorism and Resilient Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:On 27-28 Sept 2022\, DG HOME organized in Brussels the “CERIS Annual Event 2022:  Fighting Crime and Terrorism and Resilient Infrastructure”. Ilias Gkotsis from SATWATS participated as panellist during the strategic discussion about “Market uptake of innovation stemming from research projects”. \nDuring the panel session\, the effective approach of 7SHEILD project was highlighted\, focusing on the developments of SATWAYS (i.e. advanced technologies for physical and cyber threats prevention)\, also pinpointing how the project benefited from the Horizon Results Booster (HRB). \nFurther to the project and individual developments\, the DOs and DON’Ts with regards to market uptake from research projects were discussed. Moreover\, the goal of the Panel – the reduction of the distance between research and the market – was tackled by fostering the main differences between research and commercial products\, and the processes and tools used to bridge the gap between these two worlds. \nSATWAYS is proud of its contribution to both 7SHIELD and the CERIS annual event and takes this chance to thanks the organisers for the invitation to such an outstanding event. \nLooking forward to contributing to more security innovative solutions and respective CERIS events!

SUMMARY:7SHIELD Pilot Demonstration at the National Observatory of Athens in Penteli\, Greece
DESCRIPTION:On 29 September 2022\, the National Observatory of Athens hosted the first official pilot demonstration of the 7SHIELD project. \nThe pilot demonstration has the objective to showcase and evaluate the effectiveness of a holistic framework developed by the 7SHIELD partners\, which enables satellite ground segment operators to confront complex threats by covering all the macro-stages of crisis management\, namely pre-crisis\, crisis and post-crisis phases. The critical infrastructure security technologies integrated into the 7SHIELD platform and deployed at the systems of the National Observatory of Athens\, have been demonstrated and tested through the live simulation of scenarios of cyber-attacks\, physical threats and hybrid attacks\, involving all steps from the detection of harmful events\, to the execution of response and mitigation actions with the support of First Responders\, including the Hellenic Police\, the Centre for Security Studies and the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission. \nThe National Observatory of Athens is the oldest research foundation in Greece and has been nominated by the Greek government as the sole institution in charge of natural disasters monitoring. It owns state-of-the-art scientific equipment and space-based monitoring infrastructures and acquisition facilities and it provides near real-time observations and services to operational program frameworks of the European Commission\, the European Space Agency and to authorities at National and European level (e.g.\, Ministries\, Civil Protection\, municipalities\, Regional Services and Environmental Organizations). The protection of the institution’s infrastructure against cyber and physical threats is of critical importance for the seamless provision of operational services to stakeholders on a 24/7/365 basis. \nThe demonstration scenarios of the pilot has been executed as virtual and field exercises at the premises of the National Observatory of Athens in Penteli\, Greece\, and include simulated cyber-attacks targeting web-servers that disseminate satellite products\, intentional radiofrequency interference causing loss of signal received from the ground station\, as well as physical attacks such as unauthorized access to restricted areas and data centers. \nThe 7SHIELD pilot demonstration was a public event addressed to any organization or individual interested in the security and resilience of Critical Infrastructure. \nTo request more information please contact: \nSouzana Touloumtzi \n7SHIELD Project Manager\, National Observatory of Athens \nE-Mail: stouloumtzi@noa.gr \n

SUMMARY:Beyond 2022
DESCRIPTION:Satways Ltd. presented its innovative products and EU-funded R&D projects at the International Exhibition BEYOND 2022\, that took place from September 29th to October 1st\, at TIF-Helexpo\, in Thessaloniki\, Greece. Beyond is the first international stage for Industry in Southeastern Europe\, the Mediterranean and the MENA region and therefore addresses a wide audience\, including representatives of more than 450 Municipalities and Communities. With more than 340 exhibitors\, the visitors had the chance to broaden their knowledge on new technologies. At the Satways booth\, the visitors had the opportunity to discover Satways’ products and the EU-funded H2020 projects that the company participates in. \nThe 7Shield project was presented throughout the day\, together with the rest of the H2020 projects\, at a dedicated screen at the Satways booth\, while the company’s experts informed the guests about the scope and the outcomes of the project on Critical Infrastructure protection on the space-ground segment. Satways also gave to the booth visitors USB sticks that contained\, among others\, the leaflet of the 7SHIELD Project in digital form.
